Six-time major winner Sir Nick Faldo was knighted by the Queen at Windsor Castle on Tuesday.
The 52-year-old, who lives in Old Windsor, received his knighthood in recognition of his achievements in golf, which makes him Britain's most successful player of the modern era.
"I had dreams as a young boy of being a golfer and winning tournaments, but you don't dream of this," said Faldo, who captained Europe at last year's Ryder Cup in Valhalla.
Faldo won both The Open Championship and US Masters three times each in a stellar career spanning over 30 years.
He also won the European Order of Merit twice, in 1983 and 1992, and amassed 30 victories on the European Tour, as well as nine on the PGA Tour.
Faldo's major victories all fell within a nine-year stretch between 1987 and 1996. The US Open and US PGA Championship, however, eluded him, finishing second in 1988 and 1992.
He was the youngest ever player to appear in the Ryder Cup at the age of 21, and topped the world rankings for 98 weeks during his peak.
He contested 11 Ryder Cups as a player, winning five times.
Faldo's knighthood follows the MBE he received in 1998. He is the second golfer to be knighted after Sir Henry Cotton, who accepted the honour in 1987 but died later that year meaning it was bestowed posthumously.
