Great week for rising star Willis

It has been another great week for Berkshire tennis star Marcus Willis.

In Cardiff, the 19-year-old was the only British player to reach the semi-finals of both mens events.

Firstly in the singles he won three matches - two against higher ranked players - before putting up a hard fight against the No.2 seed Belgium’s Martins, but eventually losing 3-6 4-6.

Meanwhile, in the doubles, with regular partner Maidenhead’s Neil Pauffley, the local pair won two tight matches before narrowly losing 6-7 6-7.

While Willis is likely to improve his current ranking of 15 in the country, Pauffley’s improvement this year has resulted in him being added to the top squad of players who train at the National Tennis Centre at Roehampton.
