Rub of the green goes against Windsor

5:00am Fri 21st Aug 09:: written by Graeme Copas

The rub of the green finally went against Windsor CC, but it did not stop them from taking a stride closer to the TVL Division 2A title.

The loss of Adam Weston to hospital in Saturday’s draw with Eversley meant the Home Park side had to play-on with 10 men.

However, one of those, Tom Hartridge, was already struggling with a broken finger.

Skipper Wes Nichols explained the situation, saying: “Tommy Hartridge had a hairline fracture of the finger and played, but actually couldn’t do much.

“Then Adam Weston split the webbing on one of his hands and we lost him.

“So keeping Eversley to 222 with nine fit fielders was a decent effort.

“With 11, I think they would have got 170 which we would have chased down.”

Windsor managed 173-4 in reply against field placings which Nichols described as ‘very defensive’.

He continued: “They didn’t deserve to win.

“We didn’t take any risks and just took the runs which were on offer.”

Looking ahead to tomorrow (Saturday), Nichols said confidently: “I think we’ll wrap up the title on Saturday against Bagshot.

“It’ll be good but we won’t be getting the champagne out.

“We’ll leave that until the end of the season.”
