Rendall commits future to Greenies

Despite two seasons of relegation battles in Southern Counties North, Paul Rendall has confirmed he is commited to the Greenies cause.

The Slough RFC head coach told the Express he wants another crack of the whip next year because his squad have the potential to compete with the best in the league.

“I am [staying], it’s all good fun,” said the former Bracknell head coach. “They take pride in what they do. They didn’t want to go down and did what they had to to stay up.”

Now that the dust has settled on another campaign, Rendall has given his squad some much needed time off while his thoughts turn to how to make improvements.

“I’ve given them a couple of weeks off,” he said. “Some of the boys are playing sevens to kee ticking over, but it’s a chance for their bodies to recover.”

He reflected: “I was happy in the end, winning the last three games.
“We really needed that to get up the table at the end and finish as high as possible.”

Slough achieved a respectable midtable finish in seventh place. But why did they get dragged into the relegation battle in the first place? Rendall thinks he knows the answer and will address it over the summer.

“It was a slow start where we lost a couple of games by the odd point,” he explained.

“We missed a lot of kicks and it you miss your kicks at any level you’re going to lose. Sometimes we missed 12 points worth of kicks.

“We had a kicking competition over Christmas to see if anyone else could kick for us.”

Rendall explained that with a few additions and a bit of fine tuning, his squad will be able to challenge the best in the league next season.

“We’ve got a young side and sides we were playing were older and experienced,” he explained. “It doesn’t need mush more, we just need consistency.”
