Coach Britton staying at Windsor

Paul Britton is staying at Windsor RFC.

Depsite failing to take them back up following last year’s relegation, the head coach has confirmed he will be in charge next season to launch another assault on Southern Counties North.

“I’ll be here for next year,” Britton confirmed. “Ed Bell has also confirmed he will skipper the side again so that’s a boost.”

He continued: “It’s taken a while to get the new squad together [since I took over] and we’re just starting to see the fruits of that now.”

Britton, a former Royals player, also revealed planning for the next campaign began months ago.

“We were already planning for next year,” he explained. “We’ve been looking at recruiting and making the most of what we’ve got at the club because everyone in the senior section thinks we should be competing at a higher level.”

Reflecting on where Windsor went wrong in only finishing fourth, Britton added: “We’ve got to make sure we get rid of those slip-ups. We’ve got to keep our concentration because that’s what cost up.

“It’s a frustration that we didn’t do better because we know we’ve got the potential.

“All the planning will be about trying to maintain consistency.

“With our conditioning coach on board we felt we were fitter than previously, but we’ve got to step up the bar because everyone else will. We can’t take fourth place for granted.”

At the club’s end of the season awards on Friday, Pat Birch picked up Player’s Player of the Year, while Paul Nunn scooped Best Newcomer. Ray Cox won the Captain’s Award.
