Thought clockwork orange was a strange and scary film?
Think again. It is actually a device used by the council to stop clubs blasting out music.
The Royal Borough gets about 40 complaints a year about noise from licensed premises.
The information was revealed by the Royal Borough's environmental protection team leader Philip Turner at a meeting last week.
He was responding to a complaint made by resident Martin Thurgood to Maidenhead Town Forum about disturbance from town centre watering holes.
Speaking to members he said: "Last year I expressed grave concerns about noise in Queen Street and from the back of the Hobgoblin. I see no action has been taken and I feel in a few months these places will be disturbing people again."
Mr Turner responded by saying local residents had not complained but he would look into the issue.
He added that spot checks were carried out on venues and four clockwork orange devices had been installed in the past few months.
They are fitted to sound systems and prevent music going above a certain volume.
