Firestation campaign gets Strictly support

3:30pm Mon 8th Feb 10:: written by Francis Batt

Professional dancers Vincent and Flavia, stars of the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing TV show, are the latest celebrities to add their support to the Save Windsor Fire Station Campaign.

They join locally-based stars like Sir Michael Parkinson, Rolf Harris, Sir Terry Wogan, Kris Marshall and Sir Elton John in supporting the campaign to keep Windsor fire station open 24 hours a day. Berkshire Fire Authority wants to close it at night between 8pm and 8am.

Vincent and Flavia offered their support after hearing about the threat to the fire station from Sonya Fogg, who runs the Langton House B&B in Alma Road, Windsor, with her husband Paul.

Sonya and Paul are both robust campaigners for keeping Windsor Fire Station 24/7. Sonya told Vincent and Flavia about it when she attended one of their dance classes.

Mick Rowley, the Fire Brigades Union Secretary at Windsor Fire Station welcomed the latest celebrity support, saying: "The campaign to keep Windsor Fire Station 24/7 has drawn fantastic celebrity support, the likes of which has never been seen before within the UK. The prominence enhances our profile and maintains the pressure upon the Fire Authority to reverse the proposal."

The Royal Borough is currently fighting to force the Fire Authority to change its mind.
