Benefits cheat fined for not declaring savings

12:10pm Mon 8th Feb 10:: written by Gareth McPherson

A benefits cheat who did not tell the council she had savings accounts and was receiving maintenance has been fined.

Wycombe District Council paid Julie Greenacre more than £6,200 in housing and council tax benefits that she was not entitled to after she did not declare her two ISA accounts and the support payments.

She pleaded guilty at Wycombe Magistrates Court to two charges of making false statements on Monday last week.

Greenacre, of School Close, Downley, High Wycombe, was sentenced to a 15-day curfew order and must pay the council £400 in costs.

Repayment of the overpaid benefits are being sought separately.
