JULIAN CUP: Cookham Dean win Plate

1:58pm Thu 2nd Jul 09:: written by Graeme Copas

Cookham Dean CC lifted the Julian Cup Plate last night after overwhelming The Twilighters by 51 runs.

On the quick-scoring ground at Pinkneys Green CC, the Dean won the toss and smacked 186 all out from their 20 overs.

Bibby led the way at the top of the order with 60 as the Dean wemt off at 10 runs per over.

Spinners Shan (2-36) and Hussain (4-43) pulled the Twilighters - the second string outfit of North Maidenhead CC - back into the match, but an aggressive middle order knock of 46 from Maroudis ensured the Dean posted a formidable total.

The Twilighters set off a pace also with Qayyam (33) striking the ball well.

But as wickets eventually started to fall, the run rate climbed.

Only Hussain (20) and Avtar (29 not out) made any headway against the tidy Dean bowling and by the close the Twilighters had ended on 135-7.

Borland (3-24) and Austin (2-29) were the pick of the bowlers, while the Maidenhead Advertiser man of the match award went to Maroudis for his allround effort.

The Julian Cup Colts final is on Monday at North Maidenhead CC between Maidenhead & Bray & Hurst.

The showcase senior final is between North Maidenhead and Burnham at Boyne Hill CC on Tuesday.
