VIDEO: Mini Olympics at Furze Platt

7:34am Thu 2nd Jul 09:: written by Kelly Rawlings

France pipped England to the post to claim Olympic glory in front of a crowd of hundreds on Friday.

The setting was the Furze Platt senior school playing fields and the competitors were youngsters from some of Maidenhead's infant and junior schools.

It was the annual Mini Olympics run by Furze Platt schools and it turned out to be another exciting two-day extravaganza of sport.

Thursday saw children from Furze Platt Infant and Juniors take on the sporting challenge and on Friday, they welcomed Courthouse Juniors, Alwyn Infants and Maidenhead Nursery School to take part.

Children were mixed up into groups named after countries. Different 'stations' were set up on the field and the groups worked their way around each activity scoring points for their team.

After the event, organiser Fran Hodge, the school sports officer for Furze Platt Senior School, said: "I have had lots of brilliant feedback from all the headteachers who came along. To get 1,100 plus kids out all actively participating was great.

"They all said they want to do it next year which is a shame because I am exhausted," she joked.
