VIDEO: Louis Baylis Trust supports Maidenhead's heritage

9:20am Wed 1st Jul 09:: written by Sonia Kapur

A gallery dedicated to the Louis Baylis (Maidenhead Advertiser) Charitable Trust has been unveiled at Maidenhead’s Heritage Centre.

It honours the support of the trust which made a £455,000 loan-grant to help the centre buy its permanent home in Park Street.

A plaque, marking the formal opening of The Baylis Gallery, was unveiled on Friday at the new centre in the former late 19th century building that used to be The Cricketers Arms pub. The plaque pays tribute to Trust founder Louis Baylis and its first chairman, Victor Moll.

The centre, which cost about £900,000 to purchase and refurbish, opened its doors in July last year.

It aims to be the ‘memory bank’ for the Maidenhead area.

The next display to be added is a permanent exhibition on the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA), based at White Waltham airfield during the second world war, which will be of international significance.
