VIDEO: Britwell Carnival parade

3:50pm Mon 22nd Jun 09:: written by Nick Mayo

A giant appearing at their window was enough to get anyone to put their hands in their pocket during the Britwell Carnival parade.

Stilt walkers were among those who followed the route from the Community Centre in Long Furlong Drive and back again on Saturday  and they used their extra height to reach the pennies and pounds.

The carnival queens and princesses - senior queen Bethany Clawson, senior princess Renay Christian, nine, junior queen Grace Anderson, seven, and junior princess Reia Clifford, eight, - led the way giving a royal wave to the assembled crowds along the route.

Following were the Reading Pipe Band providing the music and other marchers included pupils and teachers from primary schools, Lynch Hill in Disney fancy dress and Claycots in Star Wars outfits, street dancers from Britwell Youth Project and hoop dancer Jessie Rose, who appeared in Britain's Got Talent 2009 as one half of Hoop La La.

Yvonne Roles, chairman of the Britwell parish council and a carnival committee member, said: "This year we think it was bigger and better than ever before. It is a really nice community day for everybody. Everyone has the chance to get to know people a little bit more and have a really good day."
