OLYMPICS: Day six update

Rain, rain and more rain in Beijing on day six of the Olympic Games.

So much for all the worries about the heat and the smog in the build up to the Games, no one thought about the torrential rain disrupting the athletes!

All rowing has been cancelled for the day and other events are due to be affected.

Yesterday was a disappointing one for local hockey stars Matt Daly and Richard Mantell as GB crashed to 1-0 defeat at the hands of favourites the Netherlands, courtesy of a goal in the last three minutes of play.

GB women's hockey finally got a win on the board as Slough Ladies' Alex Danson fired the equalising goal in their 2-1 victory over New Zealand this afternoon.

Kate Walsh's side went a goal behind before finding two goals to take victory and move up the table nearer to a semi-final spot.

Next up for the girls is Japan on Sunday.
