Slough left frustrated by negative opponents

Slough CC were left feeling frustrated after Dinton dug in for a draw on Saturday.

Having to chase Slough’s 247-8, Dinton decided that wickets were more important than runs and held on to finish 203-5, much to the annoyance of skipper Bobby Sher.

“I’m quite disappointed, but from their point of view having a look at the batsmen coming in they didn’t have much,” he said.

“They are new to the division and trying to survive, whereas we are looking to win.”

Mohammed Thala was the star for Slough as he crafted out a knock of 86, while Sher contributed a good 53 to the total.

Dinton inserted Slough after winning the toss. But it was a poor start for the Upton Court Road outfit as they found themselves 12-3.

Sher rebuilt the innings and they went into lunch in a healthy position.

“After lunch we lost  it a little bit,” he recalled. “Bowling-wise, though, we took early wickets until their batsmen dug in and decided that runs weren’t important to them.

“In between 20 to 15 overs left they started blocking for the draw.”

Slough make the trip to Finchampstead tomorrow (Saturday), who lost to Reading at the weekend and currently sit two places below Sher’s side in the Home Counties Premier Division 2 West table.

Slough will be without Vishan Arshad who is injured, but can welcome back Duncan Bradshaw.

“Finchampstead are a good side and results haven’t gone their way,” said all-rounder Sher.

“They’ve got some decent Minor Counties players in their team.

“It’s going to be a good test for us. We’ll have to work very hard with bat and ball to win.”
