Tesco could finally secure a home in Maidenhead's Bath Road tonight.

The Royal Borough is due to consider the controversial application at the former Mercedes Benz car dealership site, opposite Co-op.

The plans have been in the pipeline for more than two years. Last year Tesco was seeking permission for a store with two floors on top. The plans were rejected by the council following residents concerns of the impact the flats would have on the area.

A fresh bid has now been submitted to the borough without the inclusion of the flats.

Planning officers have recommended that councillors grant the application. A decision will be made at tonight's development control planning meeting in public in Maidenhead's Town Hall, St Ives Road, 7pm.

Log on tomorrow for a report of the meeting.
