Safety fears put a limit on new parking spaces

Parking plans for Home Park in Windsor have been altered after safety fears were raised by a nearby archery club.

The Conservatives running the Royal Borough unveiled a series of plans to bring more parking to Windsor last year, including providing 95 extra spaces by extending the park and ride scheme in the Home Park.

But a newly published planning application only provides for 49 spaces in Romney Lock Road at the Home Park.

The council's cabinet member for highways and transport Colin Rayner admitted that was all the spaces that could now be provided.

Making the room available was dependent on reaching agreement with the prestigious sports clubs that have their premises at Home Park.

Windsor Forest Bowmen Archery Club in particular,  has expressed concern about the original plan for 95 spaces, because of the need for a 'safe zone' where arrows are involved.

The final application represents a compromise after council officers realised the only way of keeping a safe zone was by reducing the spaces.

  • Having read this article I went to The Dials car park in the town centre at Saturday lunchtime (13.00hrs). Levels 1&2 were almost full with just a few empty spaces, whilst levels 3,4,5 &6 were virtually empty with just 2 cars on them. Once again that is 160 empty spaces in a 250 space car park rented from the owners at weekends by RBWM for £40,000 per annum !!!!! I followed this up by driving to Legoland Park & Ride at 13.20hrs and there were just 6 cars in a 300 space car park !!! Peter Hooper
