Two weeks to go for controversial Datchet Tesco

A controversial Tesco Store is to open in Datchet in less than a fortnight.

The Tesco Express convenience store was bitterly opposed by Datchet residents who converged on a parish council meeting last year to express their discontent, fearing increased traffic and a threat to local businesses.

Tesco will be operating where Mulligan's fish restaurant used to be in Horton Road.

It opens on Wednesday, February 24 and will operate from 6am and 11pm seven days a week. It will feature a free cash machine, bakery, wines and spirits.

Despite opposition, Tesco remains upbeat about the new store, proudly pointing out that it has created 17 new jobs within the community.

The store's manager Ahmed Ziyad said: "We've recruited a great team of people and I'm looking forward to working with my new staff. We are delighted to be opening a Tesco Express store in Datchet and look forward to playing an active role in the local community."
