GCSE results round up

Hardworking students have helped to record the biggest annual upturn in A* to C grades at GCSE level this year.

As students ripped open their results this morning, it was revelased that this year has seen 65.7 per cent of pupils getting the highest results - a 2.5 per cent improvement on 2007.

The Piggott School in Twyford has done even better with a five per cent rise compared to last summer, with 77 per cent of students recording top marks. Headteacher Hilary Winter said she was 'absolutely thrilled'.

Altwood School was celebrating after 68.3 per cent of students achieved five A star to C grades, a leap of 14.2 per cent increase on last year's average performance.
"We are absolutely thrilled by these fantastic set of results," said headteacher Kathleen Higgins.

Alex Tracy from Holyport was the outstanding achiever at Desborough School in Shoppenhangers Road, he got 11 A* grades and got full marks, 100 per cent, on every science paper.
Overall, 63 per cent of Desborough pupils received five or more A*-C grades, compared with 59.1 per cent last year. 
Brainboxes at Furze Platt Senior School broke school records by achieving a pass rate of 67 percent at A-C grades.
Headteacher, Tanya White, said: "I'm absolutely delighted. It's our best pass rate by four percent.
"We knew this year group would do well and are pleased the vast majority of them are going to stay with us next year as well."
 
Pupils at Newlands Girls’ School achieved a 100 percent pass rate and headteacher, Tracey Briggs said: "We are very proud of our students and delighted by their results."
Amongst the high flyers was Samantha Palethorpe, an aspiring doctor, who gained 6 A*s and 4.5 As.
 
There were record-breaking results for Cox Green School, with 68 per cent attaining five GCSE grades from A-C.
Headteacher Ian Hylan said: "We are a school that is really going somewhere."

At Claires Court School, 92 per cent gained five or more grades A*-C grades.
In the battle of the genders, the girls edged out the boys on number of A* and A grades but the boys fought back with a higher percentage gaining five or more A*-C.
Stand-out performers were head boy Jack Carrington Knowles and Victoria Morrish, who both gained nine A* grades.

Burnham Grammar School's headteacher praised his pupils for 'working their socks off' after scoring their best ever haul of results.
All 126 pupils got at least five A* to C grades. "They have worked so hard," said headteacher Dr Andrew Gillespie.

It was good news for special measures school, Burnham Upper,  which saw its results jump five percent with 42 per cent getting five A* to C grades.
Headteacher Max Bilsborough said that it was onwards and upwards for the school.

The Westgate School in Cippenham has double cause for celebration with its golden jubilee year coinciding with its best GCSE results ever.
This year 63 per cent of students achieved five or more A* to C grades.

Excellent results at Sir William Borlase's Grammar School in Marlow saw a 100 per cent rate of pupils with five A-C grades and  24 students scored a clean sweep of straight A's or higher while three students - James Carter, Adam Blackstock, and Marcus Fantham got straight A stars. 
Headteacher Peter Holding said: "We are delighted, these are our best results ever."

Wye Valley School in New Road, Bourne End, matched its results from last year. 
Top performing pupils included Emma Barnes, who gained 10 passes including eight grades at A or A* and Emma Bradbury, who achieved six A and B grades out of 11 passes.

Despite undergoing major redevelopments in recent years, Beechwood School in Long Readings Lane, Britwell, has managed to improve its GCSE results yet again.
This year, 56 per cent of Beechwood students achieved five or more GCSEs at A* to C grade.

St Joseph's Catholic School in Shaggy Calf Lane, Slough also doubles up with its best GCSE year in its golden jubilee. 52 per cent of its students achieved five or more GCSEs at A* to C grade, a five per cent increase on last year.

Pupils at Windsor's Brigidine School in Kings Road achieved 96 per cent five or more A* - C grades. New Headteacher Elizabeth Robinson congratulated the students on their results.

Grades rocketed once again at Windsor Girls School.
The percentage of students getting five A* to C rose to 70 per cent - six per cent up on last year.

Slough's Baylis Court School had its best year ever with 64 per cent of pupils achieving five or more GCSEs at A* to C grade. 
 
Pupils at Charters School in Sunningdale have pulled off a 100 per cent pass rate in their GCSE results. Overall 77 per cent achieved at least five A*-C grades.
One pupil achieved a staggering 13 A* grades, and another pupil gained 12 A*.

At the Licensed Victuallers’ School in Ascot, 107 sat exams and 95 per cent of pupils gained five or more passes at A*-C grade.

It was near perfection at St Bernard's Grammar School, where 99 per cent of students aachieved five or more GCSEs at A* to C grade, including in maths and English.

Herschel Grammar School has achieved unbeatable GCSE results, with 100 per cent of its students bagging five or more A* to C grades, including in Maths and English.

Of the Langley Grammar School's 145 GCSE students, there was a 97 per cent pass rate for A*-C grades.
