Captain Elsegood leaves Marlow

Captain Chris Elsegood has left Oak Tree Road.

The influential Marlow FC centreback was approached by newly-promoted Chesham United.

The former Maidenhead United player, who arrived at the club in the summer of 2007, snapped up the chance to play his football at a higher level in the Southern League Premier Division.

It is a blow to Marlow, but manager Kevin Stone is one the trail of a replacement defender.

“Our captain Chris Elsegood has gone to Chesham,” confirmed Stone.

“They’re in the league above and we wish Chris all the best.”

He added: “We have one or two people training with us at the moment, but I won’t name any names in case they don’t end up signing with us – it wouldn’t be fair.

“I’ve got a few irons in the fire, but we need to see what materialises from them.”

Also leaving the club in the off-season is attacking player Yashwa Romeo who has returned to former club Hungerford Town.

It means Stone is also in the market for a new frontman as well as a defender.

“We could do with another forward now Yash has gone,” he said.

“We lost Chris so are short of a centre-half. In midfield we could do with another body. And we need a striker.”
