Butler makes Windsor exit amid financial troubles

The departure of skipper Steve Butler is the most significant fallout from Windsor & Eton’s well-documented financial woes.
The popular centre-half has left Stag Meadow, possibly for Hemel Hempstead, after becoming frustrated by the club’s inability to pay wages and the departure of the previous management team.
He also admits that he feels some responsibility for the situation as it stands.
Butler told the Advertiser: “I’m disappointed, but with Keith [Scott] and Jim [Melvin] not being there next season, it’s not the same.
“Unfortunately, things broke down between the manager and the chairman.
“I have been let down by some people at the club, but it’s more a principle thing, than the actual money.
“It’s a shame I feel I had to leave, but I didn’t want to go through all this again.”
However, Butler is remaining confident that he will eventually receive the back pay and bonuses he is owed.
He said: “I believe Peter Simpson (chairman) will pay. I think he will stand by his word.”
He added: “There is no animosity. Windsor is a great club with good people and fans, and I enjoyed my three years there, especially last year.
“I wish them well for next season.”
Butler also admitted that he felt some responsibility for the situation because, as captain, he was a link between club and players.
