Windsor chairman speaks on Ryman plans

9:30am Thu 11th Mar 10:: written by Charles Watts

Windsor & Eton chairman Peter Simpson has revealed that he has applied for the club to be moved into the Ryman League next season.

The Royalists, who currently sit 16 points clear at the top of the Southern League Division 1 South & West, had been expected to move into the Southern Premier League should they gain promotion.

But Simpson, boss Keith Scott and the club’s players are all keen to move to the Ryman League, where Windsor were playing their football just three years ago.

The Royalists chairman said: “We’ve got a close affinity with the Ryman League, our original roots were founded there.

“At the moment it’s a matter of consultation for the club but from the feelers that I’ve put out the players and the manager want it and I’ve got the impression the supporters would welcome the move as well.

“The first thing I did was write to the chairman of both the Ryman and Southern League  and the Ryman have said they would love to have Windsor back. So far I’ve received no reply from the Southern League.”

The Royalists chairman added: “We’d be much better off in terms of travel times and expense which is becoming a major problem.

“The price of coach travel is rising because of fuel prices. For example this Saturday’s game is costing us £720.

“By moving to the Ryman League we would not need as many coaches so we would save £5,000 which is significant.”
