Frustrating times for Magpies

9:13am Thu 4th Mar 10:: written by Charles Watts

Frustration has been the word of the moment around York Road in recent weeks as some decent performances have failed to produce results.

Last Saturday’s encounter with second placed Chelmsford City was a classic example as the Magpies dominated for large periods without ever really looking like scoring.

In the end the hosts fell to a 2-0 defeat which was followed up by a 1-0 loss at fellow strugglers Worcester City on Monday night.

United boss Johnson ‘Drax’ Hippolyte (pictured right) praised his players for the way they went about their business in both encounters but he says they must create more chances if they are to start winning games again.

He said: “I’ve said this word a lot recently but it was once again very frustrating for everyone.

“Our desire, effort and passion was there for all to see but we’re really lacking that cutting edge at the moment.

“We’re not creating the chances we were not long ago. When we were at our free flowing best we were creating three or four a game but at the moment we’re only creating one which isn’t really enough.

“Against Chelmsford we were really getting at them, we were on top and they were hanging on so it was very frustrating to lose. But goals win football matches, it’s as simple as that.”
