COMMENT: Tell us your pothole woes
1:35pm Thu 25th Feb 10
The issue over potholes is heating up as the freezing temperatures are continuing to cause havoc with the Royal Borough's road surfaces.
Two stories on the issue have featured in today's Advertiser, one in which a scared mother has said she will no longer risk her neck riding her motorbike on Maidenhead’s badly potholed roads.
Helen Getley, of Northumbria Road, reckons she is risking life and limb every time she goes for a spin on two wheels. The mother-of-five, who started riding five years ago, has repeatedly complained to the Royal Borough, who say it has set aside £75,000 from reserve funds to repair the roads.
Last Friday Helen dumped lumps of broken asphalt from potholes on desks in the town hall. “It could kill someone because these potholes are lethal,” said Helen, who has hurt herself twice while riding, once seriously injuring her knee.
Another disgruntled resident has demanded payment from the council for damage caused to his car by potholes.
Nigel Milton, of Loosen Drive, Cox Green, delivered a two-page letter to chief executive Ian Trenholm detailing what he thought about what he called the council’s poor response to the grit crisis and failure to fill subsequent potholes.
HAVE YOUR SAY: Tell us if your vehicle has been damaged by potholes recently and where the worst roads are in the borough.
We will be finding out what the council is doing to tackle the problem in a feature next week. Tell us the questions you would like answering.

- Yes it's a disgrace, try pot-hole roundabout at the end of St. Marks/Castle Hill, or even the junction of St.Marks/Courthouse, or perhaps even the paedestrian crossing on St. Marks - some of the attempted repairs i've seen on my bicycle are laughable!
- I dread visiting my friend in Cox Green It's a mine field of Pot Holes and has been like that for years. In the dark you take your life in your own hands. I am surprised that more cyclists/motorbike riders haven't received serious injuries. Makes you wonder what we pay car tax for. I would feel safer driving in a field. My heart goes out to all drivers living in Cox Green!!!! Bloody Awful!!!!
- Yes have to agree the roads in Cox Green are unbelievable !!!! I take my son to school on these roads & found myself almost having an accident due to the pot holes in that area as i was concentrating on trying not to damage my car & almost didn't notice the car ahead of me was stopping!!!! What are we paying road tax for ?????
- Not only are we paying road tax and council tax we are also paying for replacement suspension/burst tyres/wheel trims etc on our cars!!!!! Cox Green is dreadful and needs to be top priority to be repaired!!!!!
- Diane I know exactly what you are talking about... I was driving past The Forresters and was more concerned about avoiding the holes in the road that I didnt see the car in front of me.. I was so close to an accident and furious that I was put in the position of concern for my car against the safety of others..and this has nothing to do with the recent weather, the roads in Cox Green have been like that for the past 10 years.
- In the last 3 months I have had to replace my car wheel- not tyre- WHEEL! Twice! because of dents in it caused my potholes which made it dangerous and difficult to drive.
- The roads in Maidenhead are a disgrace. The stretch of the A4 from the roundabout at Catle Hill to the roundabout at Wootten Way is just one pothole after another. I have just had to have the tracking and 2 new tyres on my car due to driving on these roads. I am surprised that there have not been more accidents and I have to say I am glad I do not ride a bicycle or motorbike as they are more vulnerable to these potholes
- Does anyone know why the pot holes have not been repaired already, what are they waiting for? If you drive along Wootten Way you'll see that there are great big chunks missing from the bumps which when you drive over them is ruining the inside of tyres. It makes me laugh that on one of these bumps, they have repaired a corner but nothing else, why not repair it fully? Also, when will the enourmous sunken part of the road on Courthouse/Penyston ever be repaired?
- POT HOLES? more like bomb craters or even reverse speed humps
