Siemens look to make job cuts

4:36pm Wed 12th Aug 09:: written by Daniel Darlington

Staff at communications firm Siemens in Maidenhead have until August 21 to express an interest in taking voluntary redundancy.

Siemens IT Solutions and Services, a major BBC contractor, is looking to cut 73 jobs through restructuring its media departments.

The reorganisation affects staff at bases in London and Maidenhead, where 130 staff are employed at an office in the Vanwall Business Park.

Consultations with BECTU, the UK's media and entertainment trade union, have started.

National official, Suresh Chawla, commented: "Our position is very clear. We will oppose any compulsory redundancies and we have urged Siemens to mitigate this possibility by continuing to invite potential volunteers from both affected and unaffected categories.

"With the reduction sought being so high, every effort needs to be made to seek volunteers and pursue redeployment options."
