Binge drink warning for exam results night
12:49pm Tue 11th Aug 09:: written by Glenn Mitchell
Parents are being urged to discuss sensible drinking with their teenage children before exam results are released later this month.
The call has been issued by the Royal Borough's drug and alcohol action team as whether celebrating or drowning their sorrows, alcohol can often play a large part in an evening out for young people.
Drunken youths are more likely to have unplanned and unprotected sex, are at greater risk of having accidents – in particular traffic accidents – and are more likely to be robbed. They are also more at risk of committing criminal damage and getting into fights.
Cllr Simon Dudley, cabinet member for adult and community services, said: "Unfortunately, many young people take little notice of the amount of, or the strength of the alcohol they are drinking and are therefore more likely to behave in a way they might regret."
A-level results are released on Thursday, August 20 and GCSE results on Thursday, August 27.
