Fresh job cuts at Nortel

6:13pm Tue 23rd Jun 09:: written by Sonia Kapur

Fresh jobs cuts at Nortel are just around the corner after staff were given a warning by bosses this week.

About 150 workers across the communication giant's three UK sites, including its largest in Maidenhead, could find themselves without a job from next week.

The news comes after ex-employees staged a protest in Westacott Way on Thursday, warning their former colleagues about the news that could follow.

A statement from administrators Ernst and Young said: "Because of economic reasons it has been necessary to implement a further redundancy programme in the UK.

"A process has been put in place for Nortel managers to advise approximately 150 employees that they are at risk of redundancy with the redundancies likely to take place shortly thereafter."

Discussions for staff at risk are due take place before Tuesday and for some staff, work would end on that day or on July 7.
