Attempts to heal rifts between Sikhs and Muslims in Slough suffered a blow after a number of Sikh representatives boycotted a meeting aimed at ironing out differences.
The meeting, held last Friday at The Centre in Farnham Road, was organised by the Slough Race Equality Council (SREC) following the recent controversy over an offensive anti-Sikh website.
The blog urged young Muslim men from areas such as Chalvey to seduce unsuspecting Sikh students and shame them by publishing photos and profiles of them on the internet.
Jagdeesh Singh, a Slough resident and high profile campaigner against domestic violence, said the Sikh community were deeply wounded by the content which was eventually taken down by Google following a barrage of complaints.
While a number of Sikh members showed up at Friday's community cohesion meeting, Mr Singh and other activists who were expected to attend, failed to turn up.
Mr Singh said it was because he felt a community cohesion conference that he and members of Slough's Muslim community attended ni Northern Island in the summer was 'unproductive'.

- why is there a rift between sikh/ muslim communities? both should stand up to the person(s) setting up the web site!!! whom soever is doing this (website), is only representing himself and no one else.
- why would people not want to turn up to a meeting to build bridges?suspicions and negativity grow when there is isolation or a lack of communication. by not turning up what will that acheive? nothing well done to the members of the Sikh community who did turn up they truely understood that only a united front is the way forward.
