Fancy pancake flippers showed off their skills at the Flipping Windsor and Eton Pancake Challenge yesterday.

The historical Shrove Tuesday activity saw 19 teams of four competing in a series of relay-fashion heats over a 50-metre course in the Windsor Royal Shopping Centre.

More than £1,000 was raised through sponsorship and entrance fees from the event, which is to be given to the Thames Hospicecare and Windsor and Eton Christmas Lights Appeal.

The challenge was organised by the Windsor and Eton Town Partnership and also featured a pancake stall.

Windsor and Eton town manager Paul Roach said it had been a massive success and added: "We had more teams than last year and a lot of new teams. It is such a good way of starting the year and for businesses to let their hair down."
