Stoke Poges Singers Open Evening - Stoke Poges


The Singers are holding an open evening at St Andrews Centre, Rogers Lane, Stoke Poges on Thursday 8th January starting 8pm. Come along for some cheese and wine and perhaps join in the singing. Rehearsals start in January for the next concert on 9/10 May – a performance of Puccini’s Messa di Gloria.
Stoke Poges Singers are a friendly four part choir of about forty members, with a varied repertoire, New members are always welcome and there are no auditions.

Eton Jazz Club - Thames Valley Athletics Centre


Eton Jazz Club is set to begin 2009 with a bang when the Sussex Jazz Kings take to the stage.
The relatively new band on the circuit, already in demand for their driving New Orleans style, will be led by Dave Stradwick on trumpet in Pococks Lane on Friday.
Pay on the door at the Thames Valley Athletics Centre venue. The session starts at 8.30-11pm. Food, drink and dancing will be available.
The evening will raise money for the Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow Athletic Club.

The British director Terence Davies shares his deeply personal musings on his relationship with Liverpool, the city where he was born and where he spent his first 28 years. Composed largely of atmospheric archive footage, it is both a celebration and a eulogy for an iconic city. Until Wednesday. A city is ravaged by an epidemic of instant ‘white blindness’. Those first afflicted are quarantined by the authorities in an abandoned mental hospital where the newly created ‘society of the blind’ quickly breaks down. A woman whose sight is unaffected by the plague follows her afflicted husband to quarantine. There, keeping her sight a secret, she guides seven strangers, who have become her family, out of quarantine and onto the ravaged streets of the city, which has seen all vestiges of civilization crumble. 8pm. £5-£7.25

The radicalised children of the Nazi generation are fighting a violent war against what they perceive as the new face of fascism: American imperialism supported by the German establishment, many of whom have a Nazi past.
