Dreaming of a world away from the ordinary is what inspires some of the songs penned by Reading artist Jemma Willard.
The 27 year-old who is the creative force behind 'Jemma Willard and her band' is working on new material for her second album following her debut, Absence of an Ending, released in 2008.
She was recently asked by BBC radio Berkshire to appear on their Sunday evening program, The Session.
She is developing her folk/rock sound with a top London Prodction company at Berwick Street Studios and will be drawing on her passion for Greek music and urban beats. Whatever the sound, the most important thing for Jemma is the lyrics. "With folk rock it is a story within a song," she said.
The debut album was a collection of her poems set to songs with the help of songwriter and producer Ian Mathias - Baker of Satellite - 9 Records in a series of songs that have been described as 'rousing guitar driven rock and folksy ballads".
Jemma's dream is to pursue a music career. She said: "I would like to be recognised as a singer. A lot of people say why don't you go on X Factor. It is a quick route and it can backfire and you can end up being a puppet. I don't think the music industry respects people who come up that way. I would rather work my way up."
