Alice in Wonderland smashes UK box office records

Director Tim Burton's 3D fantasy adventure film Alice in Wonderland has broken box office records by taking a whopping £10.7 million in its opening weekend in the UK.
The spectacle has beaten James Cameron's Avatar to the number one spot for biggest 3D opening of all time in Britain, as well as now being the biggest March opening of a film, cruising past Mr Bean which took £6.4 million.
It has taken a total of $210 million globally so far.
The blockbuster has an all-star cast of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helen Bonham Carter, Michael Sheen, Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall, Anne Hathaway, Paul Whitehouse and Barbara Windsor.
The film follows Alice, played by Mia Wasikowska, who is now 19-years-old. She returns to the whimsical world she first encountered as a child, reuniting with her old friends.
She embarks on a journey to find her true destiny and end the Red Queen's reign of terror.
