HMS Pinafore - Theatre Royal Windsor
9:12am Wed 17th Jun 09:: written by Terry AdlamIt was a large Theatre Royal audience who enthusiastically appreciated this entertaining production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore, writes Terry Adlam.
A comic opera that chartered the sometimes stormy seas of love, hypocrisy and identities, sailed along in typical Gilbert and Sullivan mode.
Moments of laughout loud humour and heart-warming romance were complimented with a raft of well performed songs to tunes that I’m still humming as I write.
The entire Carl Rosa Opera company under the direction of Peter Mulloy excelled.
Olivia Safe and Jeremy Finch as the two young lovers separated by the class divide sang beautifully.
Fenton Gray took on the role of Sir Joseph Porter, the First Lord of the Admiralty, in the absence of ex-Coronation Street star John Savident, with ease and Beverley Klein as Little Buttercup and Wyn Pencarreg as Captain Corcoran ensured that HMS Pinafore was enjoyed by all who sailed with her.
